Notice I said foods, not SUPERFOODS (that's a whole other blog post!)- These my friends, are EVERYDAY foods that help to ward off cancer due to the healthful compounds they contain! My point is- Eat these foods on a very regular basis, and your cells will thank you! Hence, you'll not only ward off cancer...You'll feel more energetic and vibrant for eating healthier foods!
Colorful: The deeper the color, the more “phytochemiclas”. These provide antioxidants that destroy cancer cells.
Cabbage family: Cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower contain anticancer substances called indole-3-carbinol and sulforafane.
Allium family: Onions & garlic contain bioflavonoids, like quercetin, that can revert a cancer cell back to a healthy cell.
2) Cold Water Fish
Salmon, haddock, halibut, bass, cod, mackerel, sardines, trout and tuna are loaded with anti-cancer fats that slow down the spreading of cancer and stimulate immune function.
Beans and legumes contain many cancer-fighting components including inositol hexaphosphate and genistein which shut down the making of new blood cells from tumors. They are also great for increasing regularity due to the soluble fiber content. Lentils are a bit easier to digest legumes, although better yet- Soaking your legumes overnight, or opting for "sprouted" versions will help improve their digesting ability greatly!
4) Whole Grains
Oats, red/wild rice, millet, quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat contain components that can help stem cancer deterioration. Modern wheat (such as that found in most wheat breads & products with flour has been hybridized to form an unhealthier, higher gluten-containing wheat product, so avoid that at all costs!
Kelp, including dulse, nori, wakame, and other varieties is rich in anti-microbial agents that keep pathogens from invading our guts. Kelp is also the best source of many trace minerals that need to be in our diet, yet are not added to the soil to grow our food crops. Use kelp for wraps, sprinkle on salads, etc.
6) Colorful Berries
Raspberries, boysenberries, dark cherries, blueberries and blackberries contain powerful anti-cancer ellagic acid which causes cancer cells to self destruct.
Yogurt can fortify the body’s defense against infections and cancer due to the probiotics it contains such as Lactobacillus and other beneficial organisms. Unfortunately, many yogurts today are wayyyyy too processed!! Try this detox-friendly coconut yogurt that actually DOES contain active LIVE cultures.
8) Green Tea
Researchers at the National Cancer Institute in China & Japan have found numerous mechanism explaining why green tea can prevent and even reverse some forms of cancer. The studies that showed the MOST benefit were when participants drank at least 4-5 cups daily....just FYI.
9) Healthy Seasonings
Mustard, turmeric, curry, hot peppers, salsa, cinnamon, garlic, onions, ginger, sage, rosemary, thyme, and other seasonings replace the typical American “fat, salt and sugar” approach to flavoring foods. These seasonings add flavor and therapeutic anti-cancer and immune-stimulating ingredients.
10) Clean Water
Water in the body helps to cleanse and dilute impurities, stabilize acid/base balance, and provides a healthy flow of nutrients into the cells and toxins out of the cells. Purchase purified water preferably NOT bottled waters, as they contain tons of toxins that mess with our hormones. Why? Because as they sit in these hot warehouses, the combination of the soft, cheap plastic and heat creates the bottles to leach compounds such as PCB's, PBB's and many other compounds you DO NOT want to be putting into your body! Instead- Opt for filtered and purified water. Examples include- electrolyte water, alkaline water or reverse osmosis.
