In today’s day and age we are constantly bombarded with messages that value appearance and looks. With the media, fashion magazines, anti-aging clinics, anti-wrinkle creams, you name it all touting the importance of outer beauty- how does one leave the house on a bad hair day? Or get excited about the Holidays when they revolve so much around food and inevitable weight gain. But can we really stop the clock?
How about embracing yourself for a change and loving yourself just as you are. The art of self-acceptance is much harder but the pay off is everlasting. The only way to self-acceptance is by building self-esteem. As you take care of your “inner beauty” your exterior beauty will radiate and you will shine like a star even if you forgot to put your make up on!
Discover your true passion
Many people tend to look outside themselves for happiness. Do you find yourself in unfulfilling relationships or constantly seek approval from others? In order to be truly happy, we must first find happiness within our own self. Rediscover your true passions. Dig deep and ask yourself. “What do I like to do?” Painting classes, cooking, gardening, hiking, taking a dance class, volunteering, joining a book club are just a few ideas that can help you to rediscover your inner spark.
Find Balance in your life
In the day-to-day grind of our personal and professional obligations, it is easy to lose track of time. Before you get to the point where your body is aching and mind is screaming vacation make a point to schedule-in time for yourself on a daily basis. Leave at least one hour of the day open for you and only you! Use this time to renew and recharge. Do something that makes you feel good. Go for a walk in nature, get a massage or a pedicure, take a bubble bath—Anything to relieve that furrowed brow from the day.
Eat well and hydrate
Your body is your temple; therefore we should be fueling it with only the best. Processed foods, sugar, caffeine, and fried foods can accelerate the aging process tenfold. On the other hand, drinking enough fluids, eating wholesome foods like lean proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, and colorful fruits and vegetables can provide our body with the building blocks necessary for supple skin, strong hair and nails and a naturally healthy glow.
Sleep Soundly
Having a healthy sleeping schedule can add years onto your life. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep is crucial to rebuild and regenerate our body. For more tips on how to sleep soundly read 7 ways to a blissful nights sleep.
Supplement your diet
Providing our body with high quality supplements can prevent oxidation from occurring, and oxidation is the main reason we age in the first place. Make sure to choose pharmaceutical-grade supplements to avoid intoxication with heavy metals, bacteria or contaminants that are all to often found in over-the-counter supplements.
